Blew up my 300k mile 4.0 yesterday. Now I'm in the great debate of replacing the 4.0 with a 5.0 or drop in another 4.0
I've done my research and have access to the in-laws junkyard but it seems like quite a bit of work to swap in a 5.0 from an explorer and retain a 5 speed. Although it is bolt in.
My debate? I feel that the 4.0 with 3.73 and stock tires is plenty fast.
Also, my clutch assembly, and all but 2 sensors have less than 2000 miles on them, and I already have a snorkel built for the 4.0.
If I add big tires and the correct gearing (35's/37s 4.88). I don't feel I should need more in a strictly wheeling rig. And a gear swap will cost about the same as a 5.0 swap.
I've seen some members run a 4.0 with 37+ and they seem plenty happy with it. It has to be better than a yota 4 Banger with huge tires...
