Opinions: Mossberg Tactical .22lr

the reason the smith and wesson costs so much is because it's actually an AR15 pattern rifle design scaled down to .22LR, the mossberg, while being a fine firearm, is just a honda civic with a bodykit.

No it isn't, it is still just a .22LR dressed up like an AR with a plastic receiver. The opperating principles are completely different, so really IMO aside from the balance and feel of the gun... as long as they work it doesn't really matter how. They did do a more convicing job though. Kinda depends if you would rather pay for a Honda with a bodykit or a four cylinder Corvette. :dunno:

The Colt is the same way (made by the same company as the S&W actually) but has a metal receiver. These fake AR's are fun (my brother has a Colt) but don't miss the price of the real deal by much.

The intent of these things is to have something with the same exact feel of an AR for training that shoots something cheaper than what an AR eats.

I would prefer the S&W mp1522.
Plastic shell over a cheap rifle doesn't perk my interest.

That said, for a .22lr, I'll just stick with the trusty Ruger 10/22.

not saying the mossy is a terrible gun, the action looks like a rip-off of of the marlin 795, but it's no smith and wesson.

It still has a plastic receiver and blowback action. They did a better more in depth job than Mossberg, but IMO if you just want the look and a reliable gun I would go with the Mossberg. The Colt is IMO a better gun with a metal receiver.

If you want something like the real deal, watch for a sale and spend a couple more bucks and get the real deal.

I used to be gung hoe about the Colt .22, after I started paying attention to them I think they are in an awkward place between the bang-per-buck Mossberg and a decent AR on sale.

And I think it was the Marlin 60 that Mossberg ripped off :secret:

the 795 is a model 60 fed from a box magazine, the 702 is fed from a box magazine, hence that i said the 702 is based on the 795

But the model 795 is based on the model 60... so we are both right :D

I have never had a Marlin apart, but according to Wikipedia the guts are different between the 702 and Marlins.
