Ok where to start.
I've had a 96 2.3 5speed 4x2 ranger for some time now.
It been a great daily driver, but lack of power is killing long rides. The 3.45 gears are not helping.
I got a 96 v8 explorer for $500 last week.
It runs great 233,000 miles on it.
Awd with 3.73 positive traction.
This is what i want.
Stock fuel injection. M50-r2. and full axle swap.
This is what i need.
Motor mounts. Goin to buy fox conv mounts.
Gen1 explorer sport radiator.
M50-r2, flywheel, clutch. X scored one X
Oil filter adapter. X scored one X
driveshaft. Waiting to know the distance.
I started pulling the v8 yesterday but rain stopped me today.
Im trying to not harm the wiring harness.
I am taking tons of pics. But Im posting from a phone so they'll have to wait for the time being.
Someone said the rear springs bolt on it. So Im going to use the complete rear end of the explorer including the leaf springs.
The little square electrical box from the efi looks the same on both so Im goin to hook it to the rangers once installed.
I may show off a bit when its done but i mainly want a little more power to hit the interstates.Im goin to refresh the rings, bearings, oil pump, and gaskets before it goes in.
If anyone sees any flaws in my plans please say something.
This is my first ranger swap.
