Hi all, just joined and I hope someone can help. I got an 89 Ranger 4x4 with 2.9 . It is only firing on 1 and 4 pistons. I got spark to the others. I also got 35 - 40 fuel pressure and no fuel and the FPS. I just replaced the MAP sensor, TPS sensor , new dist. W/ module, also, cap, wires, and plugs. Fuel filter is new as well. I'm thinking injector problems or clogged rail. It was sitting for a year.

Are you sure you're getting power to both injector harnesses?

Could be the gas went bad and clogged the injectors, are they all "clicking"? A while back I got a 87 Mercury and it had been sitting and it had big globs of what looked like wax in the gas tank. It fried the fuel pump since it kept clogging up. I put in a new pump and injector cleaner and it ran fine after that. Years ago I had an injector cleaning kit that hooked up to the fuel rail and you ran the engine on a can of cleaner for like 15 minutes or so. Most of the other guys here know more than me,so hopefully you can get the right advice and get it going.

Piston 1 is on the front pass. side and piston 4 is on the driver side front. So, I'm pretty sure its not electrical. I drained the tank and put new fuel in before replacing the filter. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I just orderd injectors and a pressure reg. I just noticed tonight that it is leaking up from were it inserts in the rail. Probably the seal ring went bad. I'll let you all know if this works, when i'm done. Untill then, if anyone has any other ideas, I'd like to hear. Thanks for the suggestions so far. :icon_thumby:

Checked wires again. They're right. I have 2,3,5,6 wires unplugged and it runs and sounds the same as it does with all of them plugged in. But, as soon as you unplug 1 or 4, it dies.

Cylinders 1,4,2 are fired as a set, and 5,3,6 are the other set. Confirm that you have power going to the 5,3,6 injector harness with the key on. And STOP REPLACING PARTS without diagnosing the problem. All you are doing is frustrating yourself and wasting money that you may need later to replace the right component.

I got a MAP sensor code and a TPS code. The old dist. was making a clicking noise. The other parts were all tune up . Thats why I replaced them. I took the injetors out today, they were all rusty and the rail had junk in it. I'm suprised any of them worked. I'm pretty sure this is the problem. I'm just waiting for my injectors to come. Thanks everyone. :icon_thumby:

While you are at it good a can of BG44k from a local shop. It will help clean up the fuel and injection system. Most shops charge 20 or more for a can, haggle with them. I work for NAPA thats inside a shop (Virginia) and we buy the stuff for 13.91 a can. Your other option is to take it to a shop and they can hook it to a Fuel Injector cleaning machine.
