I,ve read a lot of good information on this sight, what I would like to do is help with what I know about.. In 1999 I started a hydraulic, and pneumatic repair business, was trained in the AIR FORCE on aircraft along with CaT Heavy equipment. I didn,t have much money but I needed air for my truck to do service work in all terrain with my 1989 ranger in wasen,t air conditioned from the factory, I got the idea to use all the Head ware from a ranger that had AC I set it up with air tank, pressure switch and a check valve along with a rated 200 psi air tank and a 175 psi safety valve, used a secondary 3/8 pipe air regulator and gauge set at 90 psi, the tank size was app 5 gallons. Now to get to the point, I have use this setup for over 9 years with a occasional addition of oil in the intake that has a tee and a air filter. It has work day in and day out, sometimes all day with the hood up to cool the engine if the very expense york set up is superior for the price it better be a lot better than a system that has run air tool for real and countless other jobs. I hope this helps someone out their that does not have the money for alot of that other stuff. Thanks PKH

Great working idea.

Do you have any pics of the setup and components? Maybe any listing of how often you do maintenance and what you use and how much.

I can think of several uses for this type of setup too.

air compressor

Can give you detailed instructions and drawings If you use it hard lets say all day about 1 ocunce of a good air tool oil will do, if not may be once a week you use a tee facing up near the compressor down stream of the filter with a plug to add oil it has work for me! PKH

the york setup can be had for cheap. I have about 100 bucks into my york OBA system. It flows a decent amount of air and works well. I have heard of people using the stock sanden style compressors with little issue but the internal oil sump on the york is a big plus.

The stock compressors on the 2.9L last forever. the Stock unit on the 3.0 and 4.0L don't last even with regular oiling. I'm on number 4 in 2 years with my stock set up on my 91 4.0L.

I've got a york on the shelf, just havn't had time to built a bracket to mount it to the 4.0.

Either that or i'm going with a Viair set up.

I'll be pulling an RV2 AC compressor from a ram charger and using it for an OBA setup. While it take up a lot of space (Vtwin design) it also puts out a lot of air. According to a few guys who have experience with it, they say it'll fill a 3 gallon tank from 0-100psi+ in 10 seconds at 2k rpm.
