so im looking to upgrade the sound system in my explorer.

i have a stock cd player, crappy pioneer 6 1/2s in the front. and some offbrand 6x9s in rear.

so i need 4 new speakers and a headunit.

my budget is 200 for everything.

heres what ive come up with.

stereo http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22441_Kenwood+KDC-MP145.html

speakers. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_18478_Clarion+SRQ5730C.html

im just looking for clean crisp sound. with nice bass, and good mids and highs. nothing too fancy.

my ??, how are those speakers? ill either do those or these http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11132_Pioneer+TS-A6872R.html

which are better? ive heard the pioneers at best buy but not the clarions. which are better suited for rock, hip hop, classic rock?

i do plan on adding an amp and better headunit later on down the road. but i need something better than stock right now haha.

thanks :D

I have the 4-way version of those pioneers and I haven't been disappointed yet. You can feel all the bass drum beats and what not. Everything is clear. I'm in favor of the pioneers, but I've never heard those clarion either.

I've had two sets of the Pioneers (probably slightly different, they have a ton of different 5x7/6x8 options), and I'm happy with them. Like above however, I don't know anything about the Clarions.

for those of you with those pioneers how do they handle headunit power cranked up?

i dont want speakers that have good bass, but have to keep them below 5 to keep from distorting.

i like my music like i like my exhaust, LOUD

i have the 6x8 pioneers you have posted, no complaints i love them alot. plenty of bass for a door speaker. and as far as the head unit goes i have no idea. i would suggest a cheap pioneer like this one.. it will do everything a radio should. usb and aux in with remote, its basically what i have in my truck just its little brother.. but as far as speakers i def recomned the pioneers

oh and my pioneers stay ALLL THE WAAYYYY TURRNNTT UPPPP!!!

My truck is plenty loud with my 4-ways. They crank up. Though you won't be receiving a whole lot from the low end. I mean the very low end. They play some lower tones but for the real low stuff you'll need a sub.

Baker, you didn't link a radio, could you maybe post a link to the one you would recommend. I only linked the kenwood cause it's cheap. I decent pioneer is 130 and an alpine is 160 I only have like 200 max to spend.

Rest of money goes into the ranger haha.

haha sorry i had the link copied but forgot to post hahaha here it is a little more expensive like 120 but i wouldnt want a cheap hu, cuz thats where the sounds coming from and you gotta have good signal heres teh first radio..
radio one
or here is a pioneer hu at the bottom of the chain.

radio 2

The speakers seems to handle volume just fine... My rear panels rattle a little bit, so I usually don't get too crazy, but I've never heard them distort. I have the stock speakers in the doors still and have the rears biased slightly... I'm kinda waiting for the door speakers to blow before I get another set, but I dunno that that'll happen.

I have this head unit and I'm super happy with it. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JVC+-+5...late/9766628.p?id=1218169733229&skuId=9766628

I had JVC's older model (discontinued) that this replaced and liked it too.

i have 4 pioneer 6x8's in my truck now. i would say get some baffle material if you want extra bass. i usually have my treble on full and my bass a notch past half and its enough for me. and i listen to metal and techno/house music. so far im very pleased with them, but if your going for deep bass, get a sub. these will handle rock without a problem, and will sound amazing doing so. also they are cheap. i picked up my full set for 120 and im still on my stock headunit. (i havent found a headunit i like yet)

clarion is also a great company. if your going to get an amp i would recommend clarion. they use low amp draw systems so you dont need a heavy duty battery or alternator. they pound hard and dont over heat. their speakers are them same way, and you wont notice a difference between clarions and pioneers.

Have fun :)

yeah alpine would have been my second choice. but yeah it looks like you got a good setup here.

Thanks for the help everyone. Yeah I'm not looking for window rattling deep bass. Just enough to hear a good drum snare. And have a good beat.

Again thanks
