Hey folks.
Any reason I couldn't swap the 3.0 from my 98 into a 02? The 98 is a manual, the 02 an auto. I think I'd be good to go. Just figure I'd ask.

No, no reason you can't.
You just swap the block and heads, so "undressed" long block swap

You use the '02s intake manifold(injectors and sensors), Cam syncro/CPS, exhaust manifolds, valve covers, water pump and accessories.
May or may not need to swap oil pan.

Good read here on the 3.0l, and it's changes over the years: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/3_0-build.shtml

I just completed the opposite swap. 01 into a 96. Swapped intakes, electronics, fuel lines, injectors, valve covers and exhaust manifolds. The accessories I didnt have to change.

The pushrod 3.0 is pretty much the same engine from start to finish. The head bolts changed once or twice, first from standard to TTY, then they revised the TTY bolts and the specs because the bolt heads were snapping off, but that was about it.
