Im looking for a fuel tank 1988 ford ranger 4x4 108 wheel base. Ive taken my tank to a radiator repair shop to be repaired 3 ....... times still leaking no one makes a replacement tank 15 gallon 44 to 50in I think any ideas im just about ready to send the old girl to the scrapyard over a gas tank

have you looked on rockauto.com?

they have about 8 different fuel tanks for the '88 2.9, 3 of which are 108 wheel base...

I have looked everywhere the problem is the tank is 45 inches long replacements are 50 1\4 the tanks hits the transfer case

I think this is the one you need:

DORMAN Part # 576124

It's listed application includes the 108" 4x4. I think those 50" tanks are for 2wd trucks.

I've looked at a few places and replacement tanks are all 17 gal and around 50" long regardless of wheel base or drive...my wag is transmission and transfer case are not standard on jhash's 2.9...?

I ordered a tank from rock auto the tank is about 6" to long it will hit the transfer case ive got a borg warner push button transfer case

All the hookups are correct filler neck sending unit and straps but the tank is 45 inches long old one the new is 50 1\4

Could someone have made a custom tank? (Reason for leaking in the first place? Maybe?) Because they have a non-standard set of options.

The tank is factory its back at the radiator shop for more soldier and copper patchwork

this is a dumb question, and I know I'm probably on the verge of beating a dead horse, but how are you certain it's a 15 gallon tank?

The only reason I ask (and beat the horse) is because I just installed a new 17 gallon tank with a reman'd sending unit on my 83. The first couple of gallons in the tank didn't register on the gauge, so now when I'm on E and I fill up, it only takes 15 or so gallons, and I was thinking...

Is yor truck a 4wd

It is, yes. I've got about 5 or 6 inches clearance between tank and xfer case (off a c5).
