ok, i'm not a noob but i don't know much about 4x4s. if i ever plan on build a decent trail rig i need to know a few things, whats the difference between 4.10s, 4.88s, 4.56s etc... besides the being different gear ratios and which ones the best. whats the difference between dana 60, and dana 40s and what is the best truck to get them from. and what is a 1/4 ton, 1/2 ton, 1 ton axle and what puts them in those catagories i know it not how much they weigh. and lastly whats the difference in transfer cases and the best? thanks for any info that me help and educate me in the right directions and so i can understand more stuff in this site.:icon_thumby:

You need to do alot of reading... Search, all that info has been answered a bunch of times...

ok, my bad i figured some one would just throw a URL at me and call it a day. all i need to do is wast someone time but everyone needed start from the begining not everone is born with knowlege from the truck gods. but thanks i'll do that.

i wasn't saying i wanted a URL i just figuered someone would, but i'll stop now don't need to have any arguements thanks for the info.

Some people cant just answer a question without getting an attitude about it. The Tech Library is a GREAT place to start your research whether it be for axles, engines, transmissions, bumpers, etc. :icon_thumby:

There is an awesome tech library here. Spend a few hours in there and you'll be a 4x4 expert. :D

Besides the Tech Library, another excellent source for all of your axle questions would be a book called: Differentials; Identification, Restoration & Repair. It is writen by Jim Allen & Randy Lyman. I have a copy sitting right next to me and it will answer most, if not all, of your axle questions.

where could a fellow score a copy of said book..........amazon?

I'd check out Pirate4x4.com, the people there can be jerks, but they have alot of good info too...
