ok been wanting to do a motor swap in my truck for a while and at first i wanted to do a 5.0 swap but after talking to several members i have decided to do a 4.0 swap and recently my truck has developed a loud rod tap and i had the head re-built last year and i just want a new motor now. a couple questions: i have a '86 with a 2.3 say i get the motor in the truck will the tranfur case bolt up, the rear end its a stock 8.8 as far as i know will it work, and the speedo mine reads 85 mph and the new one i belive reads 120 mph, and the wireing harness can i just pull the harness and ecu from the donor truck and put it in mine, and lastly i think the fuel lines how diffacult are they to run. pluse is there any year or truck that it is better to get the motor from i found a '98 ranger to use but i havn't bought it yet. any info would be greatly appreciated.:icon_cheers:

Just make sure you coordinate with your local emissions officials, so you don't end up with an illegal vehicle at the end. It shouldn't be hard to convince them (since there was such a thing as a 4.0L Ranger for many years), but you gotta play by the rules.

You have a 86, which came with the BW1350, which will bolt up to the 4.0 Trans, yes.

Which trans do you have and what will you be using? Some are different lengths...

Not sure on the Fuel lines, never done a swap into a gen1. Hahns BII and Copy Cat both have, they may have more info on that along with the wiring. And looky here:

i don't half to worry about that there are several rangers with 5.0 around and street leagal dune buggies with v8s and so on a 4.0 swap would be like a kid slamming a honda know one will notice. and its legal.:icon_hornsup:
