I am desperately trying to locate the DPFE sensor on my 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0.

I have seen countless post describing the location and even a few pictures from other years stating, "They're all the same"...they're not. I've removed the intake cover, searched the back of the engine, left bank right bank...side up down...followed every vacuum line. I know it's right in front of me but I cant find it or the EGR valve. Please help - pics with idiot arrows appreciated.

This is a Cal emissions car so it must be there.

Google it, Bro. Type in location of DPFE sensor on 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0.

Should help you out!!!

What's a 'google'?

Yeah, tried that. In fact, I've tried every keyword combination I could think of to narrow it down to exactly what I'm looking for. Type in "location of DFPE sensor on ranger edge 3.0" and see the no less than 10 different locations, all of them wrong.

Google results

Someone knows.

Not trying to be a Richard but do you know what it looks like?

Drivers side of the engine....2 rubber hoses go into it from the EGR and 1 electrical connector....

Oh and if it has never been changed it could be an aluminum version.

There isn't one. I just took it to the Ford dealer, my car isn't equipped with a DPFE, it has some other system ~ regardless, it's not the fault.

They ran the code on their giant HAL9000 machine, it's a P0340 - cam sensor fault.

My guess is this will be a pricey little repair. I was hoping it was something else but when I told him the car would stumble, stall and lacked power....but all intermittently....he was sold on the CPS before he even ran the code.

Is this a DIY job or does it require an army of Ford specific tools and gauges? I've assembled engines, the wrenching isn't my concern so much as those nasty little "you need a Ford PN83272 socket end" bit half way through a project.

Take it out and make sure it goes right back in the same way it came out....nothing overly complicated. I don't even use the tool we do have at work to do them....

And you replace the entire unit correct? The synchro and the sensor....as a whole?

Ford dealer wants $86 for the FoMoCo and Autozone wants $54 for a Dorman w/ lifetime warranty and it comes with whatever alignment tool I might need.

Thoughts?

Im thinking of going this route, but without all the talking.

I see some sort of sensor just under the IAC valve. It's held in w/ 2 screws & has a electrical connector. Was wondering if this is the other system ??

Good luck w/ synchronizer install-

Yes, truck.

I thought the guy said EVAC or something similar, he pointed to it, it was underneath the brake line box with all the high pressure lines coming out, just behind the battery and bolted to the fenderwell. It was circular but plastic and new looking with a round 1" top and some sort of relief valve and a few vacuum and elec lines - he was positive this wasn't my problem.

The cam relay seems pretty important and if it fails it seems likely to cause all sorts of havoc. These are the types of problems that arise when you simply update the intake systems on outdated block designs instead of recasting to avoid having to integrate all sorts of sensors and false distributors and the like. This is not the truck you want when an EMP goes off and zombies invade.

I've parked it and wont drive it until I replace it. and if it's still stumbling and driving like a Dodge, I'll shoot it.

As matter-of-fact, vacuum lines hook up to the sensors we've been explaining !!

Again, Good Luck with cam sensor install :icon_welder: . And you're right about having the truck reliable when the EMP goes off-
