My 2.9l just started ticking and the oil light has come on, at firtst it was flickering now sometimes it slkowly goes out and about 2 mins it comes on real bright but it NEVER clattered drove it for 2 weeks thinking it was a sensor. I took it to a shop to have the sensor looked at and they said after 20 mins of running it the oil PSI goes to 0. This engine only has probably 20K on it. Is there a way to test the oil pump before i go looking in to ANOTHER engine. I dread having to pull this one again!

Thanks Guys!
Chaz.

I had an extra distributor and used the shaft out of it to turn the oil pump. When I installed my new motor, I put the shaft on a cordless drill and turned the oil pump only, without turning the motor. I would suggest getting your hands on one of these shafts and installing a good aftermarket oil pressure gauge.
