OK, just now assembling my 5.0 and have on hand 2 oil pumps. Both are standard flow/pressure. Number 1 pump is a Ford Racing pump and the other is made by Melling. Both are new and in the wrapper. Which one would you use and why?
TIA

I dont know much about the ford racing pumps, but I have always used Melling and had great luck.. good pressure and no failure.

They're probably both made by Melling. Close your eyes and use the first one you pick up.

Either pump. I have always used the Mellings pumps untill I found out that the Ford pumps are cheaper in cost and I have been running them for the last few years. I dont know about the pumps you have but all the Mellings pumps I used were cast iron and now all of the Ford pumps that I have been using are aluminum and both work great. Cant go wrong either way you go.

I would use the melling. The m68a pump is their best pump imo. Never had a problem with any of them though.

If the Ford pump is aluminum and the Melling is cast iron, I would definately use the Melling. The iron body will far outlast the aluminum bodied pump.

I have pulled many SBF apart with well over 100k - 200k miles on them with aluminum oil pumps and not one of them was worn out. There is nothing wrong with aluminum oil pumps and if there were Ford would not have used them for decades. Either way they are both good pumps.

I put the melling m68a in my motor, i haven't had any problems yet.

I have a cast iron Melling in mine too.

As far as decades of aluminum go, I could have sworn my '87 had a cast iron one originally too but the scrap guy has emptied the tank twice since I changed it.
