ok i just pulled the 302 out of my 87 ranger it has been sitting for 10 years in a pole barn the engine is new has never been started my question is do you think i should replace the dual sump oil pump or do you think it would be ok thanks for any help you can give me!

If it had oil in it and no critters in the pan, it should be fine. Fill the pan with oil, and then prime the pump with a drill stuck down into the distributor hole (gotta pull the distributor first) using a long 1/4" extension and a 1/4" deep socket. Tape the socket to the extension with duct tape. Pump turns counterclockwise.

^^ what 457 said and maybe look thru valve cover fill hole to see if oil is coming over the rockers, after about 15-30 secs

You might see if you can turn it over with a wrench on the crank after you pre-oil it.

A tight brand new engine will stick a lot easier than one with some wear on it.
