Oil Pump Problem Possibly!!!! Help!!!!!

I have a 92 Ranger with a 2.3L. 120,000 miles.

I slowly lost oil pressure over the course of a week (I know the gauge is just a switch style gauge, Any pressure at all and it will read high, you guys know how it is) The gauge would move all over the place erratically. The vehicle ran fine never lost any power or made any noise. The gauge finally got the point of not working at all. Truck still ran fine no noise no loss of power. So...I am thinking junk sensor. Well on my way to work the next day every valve in the head started to rattle at once. No loss of power though. Shut it off and had it towed home.

I have heard of the head passage clogging up on these, any way to check without tearing it down completely?

Is there any way to check to see if the oil pump is actually working?

Does anyone else know what could be going on here? Intermediate shaft maybe, or clogged pickup screen?

Also, will the oil pan come off of these truck without pulling the motor or messing with the I beams?

Any help you experts can give would be appreciated.

Thanks

Take out the oil pressue sending unit and install a acurate gauge like one from Autometer - you can find them in most auto supply stores and they usually come with the fittings and line to hook it up

May have same problem

I have a 95 ranger xl with the 2.3L single cam engine. My daughter was driving it and the engine died. I have been able to determine that the cam shaft froze. This stripped the timing belt at the drive shaft gear/pully.
I would like to know about the oil pump testing and pan removal, what was asked in the initial question.
Can someone answer those?
Will this engine sustain any damage to the valves with the shaft frozen?
Where can I get a GOOD manual to aid me in repairing this motor?
The Haynes manual does not have very good instructions since it tries to cover all 4 engines that can come on this truck.

No valvetrain damage should occur because these are "non-interference" engines. I think I have the "Haynes" manual for mine, and even though that book also covers all engines it's pretty good for me.
