I am just wondering what most trucks w/ the 4.0 ohv run pressure wise on the stock gauge as mine is on cold around the "O" and "R" and then after running around for awhile I notice it up to around the "R" and "M" but never has went higher then the "M". I thought that it was kinda low but my truck runs great and has plenty of power and I am running Valvoline 10w30 if that makes a difference. It is a 1993 2wd too

Thanks

What you are seeing is a slight difference in voltage from the battery/alternator. Your pressure switch doesn't work till 12 pounds are "seen" then it changes the voltage to be somewhere near the middle of the NORMAL on the gauge. Any small change up or down is NOT connected to the actual pressure. As long as there are 12 pounds of pressure the sendor doesn't do anything different..

Basically your guage is more likely a "Guage simulator" than a real "guage"

Imagine the hordes of customers constantly comming into the dealer complaining about every little quiver of that needle if it were really a guage...

you can make it INTO a guage by installing an actual guage sender.

A real "sender" for an actual guage is about the size of a kiwi fruit.

a "phony sender" looks like abottle cap with a neck where it attaches to the engine

so what I am seeing is completely normal then right??? and I thought about doing an oil pressure gauge on just to see it but as long as this is normal then I may not even bother..
