oil pressure stays at 20 psi at all rpm . will an oil pump fix this problem ?

you might have a clogged pickup screen

My bets are on a bad sender or gauge.

its a brand new mecanical gauge, im taking off the fram and putting on a NAPA gold tonight

If that doesn't fix it, It could be the pressure relief valve in the pump. Try running a quart of trans fluid in it for a while, that will clean it out.

Did you use the plastic line with the new gauge? Do you have it kinked somewhere? Was the gauge a quality part or a china made thing.

If the oil filter does fix the problem, definatly let us know.

oil filter helped a little bit , i think im going to do the oil pump tomorrow

you do know that you have to pull the engine out of the truck to change the oil pump.
some have said it is possible to do in the truck, but it is easier to pull it.

i've pulled my oil pump with the engine in the truck, i'll never do it again.. one of the worst experiences of my life... you can't get the oil pan out all the way so if you drop stuff in the pan you get to try to fish it out... plus all the debris that falls in there

Yeah, getting the oil pan off is definitely a job and a half, I did it once, and the very next thing I did to the truck was a 2" body lift. Best idea I've ever had. ;)

Next time I had the oil pan off it came off quite nicely because I could jack the motor a waayy up and had tons of clearance.

There's a long list of jobs that my 2" body lift has made easier, even though it makes the truck look a little funny, and people definitely poke fun at me because of it, I am definitely a 'beleiver' now. :thefinger:

well the oil pump is in :headbang: i did it with the engine in the bII with not to much dificulty. the use of a cherry picker is a must i think for tis job. now the oil pressure is within the specks.. but i think the reak problem was the pick up screen was 80% or more cloged with sludge. thanks for your suggestions.

Motor Flush and synthetic oils may help with the sludge problem.

If you do use motor flush DO NOT rev the engine at all! I don't know if I read that on the can ages ago or I read it or someone smarter than me told me that.
