can the oil pan be removed on the 92 exploder without pulling the engine? i was looking in my chiltons and it says to pull the motor first

Not really. the engine cross member gets in the way. Sometimes you can get away with just jacking it up on the 4x2's, but you have a 4x4. The front axle gets in the way and the engine cross member is closer to the engine on the 4x4 model.

can i do it if i just pull the motor up a little? or can i remove the cross member?

If by pull it up a little you mean half way out, then yes. You have an oil pump pick-up tube that sticks down into the low part of the pan that you have to clear.

As for removing the cross member, even if the front diff wasn't in your way, it's welded to the frame.

Lets approach this from a different angle.

What are you trying to do, aside from remove the oil pan?

i was gonna change the oil pan gasket cause it looks like the oil pan is leaking some

I've seen some guys be able to do that without pulling the engine completely, but only with the rubber gaskets, and it's a bit tricky.

You gotta get the pan down a few inches and fish the gaskets around the oil tube.
