HI all
I have the duel sump pan for the 302 swap but would like to know which side goes where?? does the deep part of the pan go to the front of the motor or the back?? the motor does have the front dip stick. and does anyone have a pic of the heater box fabracation? :icon_bounceblue:
OH 2 wheel drive 1984.
Thanks
Tim

If you have a timing cover with dip stick tube, unfortunately this will not work correctly with the double sump pan. That dipstick is for a front sump pan, which will not fit because of the cross member. You'll likely need a double sump pan with the dipstick tube in the pan. You may beable to pick one up from the auto parts store, but they are probably a little stiff as far as pricing. I hear that people have trouble finding them in junk yards.

Deeper part of the pan is back, shallow is front.

There are a few heater box pics lying around, I haven't cut mine yet but will probably do so this weekend now that I my engine is in and I know how much and where to cut. I'll likey fix it back up with some sheet metal I have lying around.

For the heater box you can heat it up and push it in. That way you don't to worry about sealing it back up.

you might be able to see what i mean in this pic.

That pan will only fit one way. Just get a fox body mustang dipstick and tube. Problem solved. As for the heater box cutting a notch is not too tough to patch with some HVAC tin and foil tape.

depending on what year block you have, it may have a machined place on the drivers side below the head for the dipstick on double sump pans w/o dipstick provisions. and the timing cover with the dipstick wont have to be changed, it just wont be an accurate way of checking the oil. cant help on the heater box mods... i didnt have to cut mine! :headbang:

Ford oil pans only fit one way. :icon_confused:

Thanks all
I like the idea of just heating it and pushing it in....
I've never worked with the duel sump pan before so I didn't know which way it would go on.. Thanks all for your replys :icon_thumby:
The motor is out of a 74 F-100. I don't have it yet out yet so I don't have any number as to heads and such.. it has 109,000 miles on it.. we just replaced the timing chain a year or so ago. it runs real good no noise or smoke, I am going to take it apart and do barrens, gaskets and a performer plus cam, exhaust port work and hope the cylinders look good I'm trying to make this as cheap a build as possable.
Thanks for your replys
Tim

Bearings...i assume

Barrens? Isn't that like Siberia in the winter? Spellcheck has got to become a priority for some people I think.

No, it just shows you where our educational system has brought us. THANK YOU OBAMA, THANK YOU LIBERAL EDUCATORS!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!:icon_confused:

And it's only going to get worse. There was one here I think that was spelling "emissions" as 'emittions" a few days ago.

It just drives me crazy when people can't spell and they don't know it. I recall receiving important info from a project director a few years ago that was barely readable between poor grammar and bad spelling. Our system up here in Canada has suffered too. Why do we keep electing people who just don't do the job?

I hate bad spelling also. Back to his oil pan problem. Going to have to find one from a Ford car from around '82'. NAPA has them but they run about $92. Not sure of what years actually had the dip-stick in the pan. Depending on what part of the country you are in, you can find them for under $50. I've always used www.car-part.com and had good luck. Partial photo, having trouble with PhotoBucket tonight.
Dave -Somebody want to start a rant page on the lack of edumacation in todays world, I could go on and on. Both folks were teachers for 40 years and sister for 35.
