does anyone have any ideas on removing oil pan with out pulling motor this is on 1994 4x4 3.0liter v6

remove engine mount bolts and slightly jack up the engine to give you clearence.

the oil pan will not come out with the engine AND transmission in place. one of them has to come out of the truck...the choice is yours.

Just did this feat couple weeks ago, and it was a feat!

Like they say pulling one or the other is easy way to do it but can be done the hard way with patience, I wound up dangling the starter motor, unbolting tranny from cross member and too loosed the motor mounts, wedged a 2"x4"x1.5' standing vertical between floor jack and crankshaft pulley with a forward slant then pumped to no end (for lack of an engine hoist), some one posted you will need to lift the motor 4 inches and this was no stretch of the imagination (4&1/32 would be better). You can place 2x4 cuttings for safety and clearance guide between mounts and block. There is an electronic / vacuum switch emissions thingy made of plastic mounted to the ignition coil pack where the spark plugs run from,,, best unfasten it or it will get busted when motor butts against the fire wall at full lift. When the pan is loosed you will need to draw it out while twisting towards a sideways (laid over) position in one motion. I can't remember for sure but I think I twisted the top / open end of the pan towards the right hand passenger side. Not certain, but I seem to recall removing small inspection plate screws to keep from hanging up on them.

Of course with 4x4 there is a drive axle that I understand must be dangled also.

P.S. If I was going to do it again for the first time, with the right tools I would drop the tranny I think, or with an engine hoist maybe lift motor and tranny out as a unit at least enough to get at the pan.

thats the difference between 2wd and 4wd. the 4wd crossmember and axle beams are bigger and block the pan in. ive never seen the pan removed on a 4x4 TTB with the engine and transmission in (ive tried).

never tried...doesnt look fun.

i wouldnt watse my time. you can have the transmission out in an hour or two even if you drag your feet.

you arent splitting the transmission case. theres no way they should void your warranty for removing the transmission (if so, id send them a nasty gram).

if its that big of a deal, pull the engine and transmission together.

The fastest way out is the transmission.
There is not too many wire harnesses to deal with but to make this task easy you Must have a car hoist.
Me personally hate, disgust, totally dislike and piss on the idea of working with my back to the floor.
But that's only me.
If you don't have a hoist to help you I totaly understand what you are up against.
But definitely is up to you what you want to do.
I do not sugest you remove the differential axles for it involves a lot of time and not too much fun anyways.
Good luck.
