Probably a dumb question.

Chilton says you must remove the engine to remove the oil pan!

Is that really true? Has anyone pulled one with the engine in the truck?

Look at your oil pan. Does it have two pieces? I have an 03 4.0L SOHC and there is a sheet metal cover on the bottom, then there is a structural "lower engine cradle" aka upper oil pan. This is where the oil pump is and yes I have to remove my engine to take it off. Not sure if the 4.0L OHV is the same way...

Thank you for your service to our country!
