I got a new gasket for the oil pan, the old one was rubber and fit into a slot around the pan, the new gasket was flat....is this the wrong gasket?

Thanks,
Louis

I think I might be in trouble, after doing a little searching on autozone website, I think the motor I have is a 92 or 93 not a 94. The old gasket looks like the one used on 91-93... it has a egr valve so it's not a 91. I just wonder how a 92 or 93 engine will run using a 94 computer. Does anyone know a for sure way to tell what year this engine is?

Thanks,
Louis

not sure if this will be a lot of help for you. but between my 94 b4000 and my 90 ranger the only differances between the engines ive seen, on the 94 had egr and cps, and the belt tensioner was on the bottom of the engine rather than the top where it is on the 90. i swaped the 94 engine out with a 93 from a junk yard(not sure if it was original engine in the explorer) and it was the same as my 90 engine. i also had swapped my 90 ranger engine out for a 91 engine which was exactaly the same. i hope some if this will help you identify yours. as for the computer should be fine as long as all the sensors were changed over.

I think I might have an answer, the engine is from a 94...it must have been built early in the 94 production run and had a surplus of 93 style pans and used them. The guy I got from I work with and he had the explorer for q few years years, I am sure he would know what year it was. Sad news is I have to pull the engine back out and change the pan gasket.

Thanks,
Louis
