so, in the process of pulling the main cap wedge seal, it broke off. the wedges are now stuck in the cap still.

any suggestions? or should i just rtv the crap out of it and call it a day

nevermind, looks like i'm pulling the cap. which i was avoiding because it means running to the store to get a new t-40 socket

Yup, the right way is to pull the cap.

Be VERY careful not to nick the main bearing journal or the bearing. Inspect the bearing (visually) while you're in there -- shiny silver = good.

FYI, it's incredibly easy to change the rear main seal with the rear cap off.
