You can raise the engine about 5-6 inches to get to the pan. You don't have to remove the engine. Some people would rather just remove the engine. The dealer has a bulletin board note on raising the engine to get the gasket off. Search our site. I believe somebody posted that some time back.
I do know the 3.0 is notorious for the pan gasket pushing out. Some people I know who have the 3.0 motor have told me they were able to push the gasket back in place when they loosened the pan bolts. Some told me they just raised the engine to do it. I never saw one being done before.
