I am currently rebuilding a early 2.3 for my 88 ranger and it requires a 4 piece gasket for the oil pan.I had to replace the front lower case with the front oil seal and did not notice that it was made for the one piece gasket. I'm concerned that the rubber front pan gasket might move as there is no groove for it. My question is should I remove that rubber gasket and just use silicone or try to find a piece of cork? After all the work I have done on this engine I would hate to mess it up now. Thanks.

Just use a some indian head to attach the gasket to the front of the pan, then put a layer on top of the gasket before attaching the front cover. Use RTV in the corner joints where the front part of the gasket meets the center part. It won't go anywhere.

Ok i think i got it. The front pan gasket does have holes in the ends for the screws to secure it so that should help hold it too. Thanks for your help.
