my oil light is on and the level is fine its on the cross hatching. the weird thing is it goes out when i touch the brake pedal. anybody know what i should do?

The oil light is not a oil level light. It's for oil pressure. How's the engine sound? Ticking or knocking? I would plumb a manual gauge in to verify oil pressure but with the brake pedal making it go out it sounds like a ground issue.

No it is a oil level light..

There is a sensor in the oil pan. Single wire coming out about ½ way on the oil pan. Then there is a relay/timer that will reset after I think 5 mins to let the oil drain before it gets the reading.

I looked and looked for this relay and never found it. Manual says it's behind the cluster.

Sensor is about $100.00 to replace. Relay is about $15.00. I finally just covered the light with tape. It goes off sometimes but mostly just stays on. I check my oil on my 94 at least every monday. It is never low.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't it both? I think the light comes on when the gauge goes below a certain point.
There are two separate sensors, one for oil level and one for oil pressure.

Hmmn. Yah, put them in series . Make the idiot light dual function. My old BMW has separate lights. Rat's idiot light goes away the instant he engine fires up, So I haven't had to explore, yet :D

If the light bothers you pull the bulb or clip the wire going to the oil pan

Worked for me on my 93....

That's good to know. Just makes me think my problem has to do with the relay. Need to look at some of the pics when someone takes apart a dash completly and see if I can locate this relay.
