Oil for my 84 bronco 2

Not that I have bothered to look , but I dint know there was a 10 30 HDEO, I'll have to do some research. I would have no problem using it in the 4.0 should it start burning oil. It seems to like Auto Zone 5 w 30 so far. My BMWs spec 20 W50. I bought a bunch of 20 w 50 Castrol for motor cycles. to keep the valve train quiet

You still don't get it, do you?

You want that 1st number as low as you can get it. The 2.9 specs 10-30 because 5W oils were very rare in the 80s, let alone 0W.

The 10W-30 is twice as thick at ambient temp and the same at operating temp. If you start using oil a 0-40 would be better than a 10-30.

We've been using full syn 5w40 diesel oil by Rotella(sp)

The BII with the 2.9v6 seems to like this oil, combined with a napa silver oil filter. (made by WIX, last time I checked. Not Fram (yuck)) I tried using 10w30 in the winter months, and the engine sounded like a bunch of loose nuts rattling in a tin can. (We do run 10w40 in the summertime)
