im gonna be changin the oil in my 1990 ranger 2.9 soon an was lookin for some opinions on which oil filter i should get. i currently have an STP on it but was wonderin if i should get somethin different. i dont really want to go with a FRAM. so bein said.....Motorcraft? K&N? or STP again?

I use Amsoil filters on my Ranger and F150. Fram in my HHR and son's Scion xD.

...And I don't care about all the 'horror stories' about Fram filters. It is the number one selling filter period and if you look hard enough on the internet you'll find 'horror stories' about damn near anything in existence!:icon_thumby:

If I did not use Amsoil, the brand choice would be Motorcraft....just because...:D

I've always used motorcraft on mine, will never use fram filters on anything, even my lawnmower (yes it takes one). I've seen enough cutaways and filter failures with them to last me a lifetime, fram sells more filters than anyone because of their large advertising campaigns and being the oil filter supplier to walmart, not through superior product quality.

Fram kills engines. They make a decent air filter, I wouldn't crap in one of their oil filters.

Motorcraft makes one of the best oil filters on the market. My favorite part is that I can go into any Advance Auto and buy the Motorcraft FL-1A for about $1 less than the equivalent, lower quality, Fram filter.

If you haven't already, find someone that carries Fleetguard filters in your area and pick up an LF3313. Great filters.

Opinion on mobile one?

Just stick with motorcraft filter. they filter great and are cheaper than any filters from "performance" companies.

I would stay away from FRAM.... think VHS, beta is far superior.....

I run purolator classic filters. Never had any issues. I dont recommend fram to any of my customers.

My old 2.9L would always tick with a Fram filter, I go Motorcraft now days, walmart has them cheap :icon_thumby:

If you have room for a longer filter a Napa/Wix 1773 will fit and up your oil capacity by 1/3qt

TG FRAMS seem to be OK. I won't use STP or bottom of the barrel FRAM.

I assembled an engine, installed it in the car with a STP filter as a throw away for the price. Ran it for about 30-45 minutes or so in park on the throttle, took the filter off to change oil to get out any potential junk, and it was DRY. I thought I did something wrong, but the engine sounded OK, so I tried a Bosch and that worked out as expected.

motorcraft or purolator best two on the market.
