I have a 88 B2 and every time I change oil and filter the filter is loose just enough to leak. As I spin the old filter off the nipple pipe the filter spins onto, comes out with the old filter. I asked Ford and they had no diagram to show if there was a lock washer or any lock tight compound to use? Has anybody else had this problem? Any advice would be helpful.

I looked and couldn't find anything either. Pretty sure you just have to hand tighten it as much as possible. Use your hand with some latex gloves and turn as hard as possible. Hope that helps you.

The threaded piece is two sided and can come out. Your probably got loose at some point, and needs tightened properly. There is a hex boss for a large allen key inside the hole.

This was a common problem on the mid-2000s Econolines with gas V8s. It actually is caused, most commonly, by the filter being over-tightened. The filter gets tighter to the nipple than the nipple is to the adapter housing.

Is this pipe nipple the same thead pitch the entire length? And is the hex head at one end to indicate which end to thead in or is it in the middle of it?
