I dont know what the name of it is, but it is the piece that bolts to the engine block that the oil filter screws up into. My filter was being a bitch as usual and not coming off, so i had to resort to the screw driver punch through method. When i was banging on it (not very hard), direction of force towards the front of the truck, the whole unit suddenly turned counter clockwise. I was able to turn it clockwise and it seemed to tighten up again. there was a piece of metal that hits and prevents me from tightening it anymore.

My question is: Did turning it tear up some gasket between the engine block and this piece, and now i am gonna leak oil everywhere?. Is this piece supposed to rotate like that? it looks like there is one bolt in the center holding it on, but i cant get at it to tighten.

Should be OK. You'll know as soon as you put oil in and fire it up!!!
