I have an oil filler cap that has a vent hose and was wondering if I could plug it or if i changed the valve cover to an esslinger valve cover that has no vent? how would that effect it? :icon_welder:

I swapped in a Mustang valve cover that is a bit better than the stock 2.0...it has the filler cap at the front of the engine (my 2.0 had it at the back) and the cap is a screw in type...there is a small vent hole just behind that for the top end vent...

As for not using the vent...I've thought about just plugging the hole...but there is a LOT of pressure coming out that hole...I always thought it was to suck air in, but mine just blows air out...

So...I would say that the vent is there for a reason and not having one would probably cause some serious pressure issues...where the oil blows out the dipstick (mine did that before I swapped in a 2.3)...

was the mustang engine size the same and could i buy a knew one or do i need to go to a salvage yard?

The Mustang 2.3 is the same size as the 2.0...the head I have on mine now is from an 89 Mustang...and the block is an 87 Ranger 2.3 (now)...

Not sure if you can buy them now, but the junkyard should have a few still...but there are some differences that might need mods...like the valve cover is a bit taller so your breather tube that goes to the passenger side might hit it...I'm using a 78 Mustang II intake with a 5200 carb...the air tube on that is actually thinner than the original and it just clears it...the wires usually run out under the air intake tube...at least on my 2.0 they did...

And with the 2.0 the vent tube enters the rear of the breather (again, on mine it did) so if you move the tube to the front like on the mustang cover you will need to route that over the breather...I actually had mine plugged into the front of my breather cover...and IIRC the 2.0 Asian carb had holes at the front for other things like the valves for the warm up tube...

Not usually a problem to adapt them...but just things you have to consider...plus changing the valve cover requires changing the gasket...the cork are only $12 but the rubber that I used is $50...and they stretch so it's not something you want to mess with...too much!

is it ok if i put a mini filter on the oil filler cap? Because i am going to put a new carburetor on and the new air cleaner has no where to put it
