so yesterday on my way home from work the oil dipstick decides to come loose (meaning it popped up a bit) and i lost just about all my oil. Has anybody else had this problem before? I caught it because I notice I had low oil presure.

Yes...blowby will throw your oil out of every nook and cranny. If it's coming out the dipstick then it will also come out the PCV canister or anywhere else that is available.

I just got finished doing an oil canister modification to allow the blow-by to blow without tossing all my oil. It relieves the pressure inside the engine and allows you to drive it without loosing all your oil.

However, if this just recently started you might want to check that the PCV valve is working properly (it should rattle when you shake it) and replace it if needed.

Did you recently add any sealant to the oil or change anything else?

I checked it today and plus it is brand new so it is not that. how do you do that oil canister mod?

Here is the link of the mod I did. You may be able to improve upon it or use different materials.

Still looking for an oil separator but mine is burning oil also so it needs a rebuild. But the blow-by was the cause of my 2.0 to finally die on me. Also used a can of Rislone Rear Main Seal recently and that seems to have cut down the blow-by a bit. Once they start they don't get better without rebuilding.

And, just a note on operation...this wasn't a problem until I put in a longer duration cam and decided that I could run it into the red line a few times to see how much power it had...and it did have quite a bit more power...but on an older engine it's best to be a little gentle on them...:)

so i did the oil catch. It blew my dipstick out and sprayed oil. so I am going to have to clean that side of the engin again. look at the pics to see how I have it set up.

If you can see I used a rubber gromet and put a pcv in it. well i think the pcv is causing to much pressure so i am taking it out and sticking the hose directly in the gromet. I am going to try this out and see if it works.

Just sent you a PM...but the can looks good...There should be both inlet and outlet...the lines go from the crankcase and valve cover vents into the can...but in mine I put in steel wool to also try to catch the mist of oil that tends to come up with the forced air...and then run one line into a T (on it's side) where the top part comes out, put the PCV and then run the hose to the base of the carb (if you can).

I shunted the side of the T (again, the T is actually on it's side so it looks like ┤) and run that out and down by the passenger tire...

This is somewhat going around emissions, but I'm going to put an oil separator on that out line to eliminate oil getting into the combustion and prevent the oil smoke (hopefully).
