Hey somebody school me on what an automatic transmissions radiator does, i am using one in my ranger because my other one broke (stupid kamakazie birds!!) and i have a 5 speed tranny so im not using the tranny cooler inlet and outlets so i was wondering if hooking them to an oil line would work like an oil cooler? lemme know what you guys think.

Why would you think you need an oil cooler? Your oil is designed to withstand the heat of the engine. UNLESS you are using our little engines for extreme duty towing and such there is no reason to have the extra risk involved in having pressurized oil outside the engine itself.
Once a leak appears and the pressure is 40 lbs or so...there went all your oil! So if it isn't absolutely needed don't even think about an oil cooler.

As for what the tranny cooler does.. Two things. First off heats the tranny in cool weather. Then when towing or other extreme use it cools the fluid to radiator temperature helping to keep the clutches cooler in the tranny.

cool thanks, i just thought it would improve engine wear and whatever but your right i should learn to leave well enough alone sometimes

That tranny cooler is way too small for an engine oil cooler.

Not too small in cooling power, but too small in fluid flow capacity.

The trans coolers typically have 3/8" lines, as the ones on Rangers do.

Engine coolers should have 1/2" line minimum (approximatly double the flow capacity)
or 5/8" lines (diameter of the tube through the cooler)

And while you don't necissarily "need" an engine oil cooler, there are benefits
of having one.

Sludge and varnish formation in the lubricating oil are a function of peak temperature
so your oil will stay cleaner longer with a cooler.... however an unregulated cooler
will create other problems, y not alloowing sufficient oil temperature to be achieved to drive out moisture....

What moisture? condensation from whatever blow-by gasses that get into the crank case.

Proper oil temperature is right atround 100-105degC sufficient temperature
to prevent water gas from condensing to liquid.
