Oil Change

Doing my first oil change on the B3000 today. It's the first time that I will be getting down and dirty with my truck. Anything tricky I should watch for or that I should remember or is it just cut and dry?

I know, it's only an oil change, but sometimes the easiest of things need some attention to detail...

wen you remove the filter, keep your arms to the side as much as possible to avoid oil running down your arm in ruining your shirt, lol, and the oil will be a bit warm if your truck was running

oh and when you put the oil in her, dont over fill it, it might cause to blow a head gasket..it happened to me

My 2000 ranger has a cross member that is right under the drain plug and tends to fill up with the draining oil and then drips for months I use a piece of cardboard to funnel it down to the drain pan. That cross member may be part of the lift thats on my truck but I tell you what, the lift sure does make the filter change easy

on my 2007 under my oil filter there is a funnel so i lets the oil miss the starter almost altoghter its really weird to see that but its very nice to have

i love mine when i first got my truck and did my first oil change on my truck i saw that was kinda like woah thats different and then when i took my filter off it worked pretty good i think its a good idea one of the few from ford hahahahahahaha

Mine has the funnel as well.

The oil filter is a royal PITA on these trucks.

its not so bad i can reach mine through the fender without a problem is urs 4x4 or 2wd?

Put a lift on it and no more filter worries I can reach right through the wheel well and twist it off no burns or busted knuckles, way better than my dads 99 escort.

mines stock height and and very easy to reach without touching the manifold or busting my knuckles all though..............a lift wouldnt hurt anything and would make it twice as easy to take my filter off hahahahahahahahaha

I'm gonna get it done on Friday, I had a random surge of shit to do the past few days...

Make sure the gasket comes off with the old filter. It sometimes gets stuck to the engine. If you put the new filter on over it, it will start gushing oil everywhere as soon as you start the engine.

Lube the gasket on the new filter with oil.

And don't overtighten anything. Remember, the drain plug only keeps the oil from spilling out, it doesn't hold the entire freakin truck together. The filter goes on a little past snug (IMO, you shouldn't ever need a filter wrench if the filter is properly installed)
