I was joking at the irony of your statement is all. "not internet hype" and you are on the internet saying it.

This is as close to any Ecoboost group I am a part of, I know farmers that have them and the only real complaint I have heard they won't burn E85. The 2.7 might but as a whole they are not interested in it vs the 3.5.

My buddy has an F150 with the 2.7 and loves it. I think it’s a 2015. Of course, that’s just a sample of one.

the stock hpfp and in some cases the lp can not supply the volume needed if you actually have e85. around here our e85 is usually closer to 55-65 percent.


you upgrade the hpfp on the 2015 and later trucks and e85 all day no problem...probably looking at 2 grand but the power over stock is ridiculous. there are flex and taurus guys making some big numbers around here.


e30-e50 is doable with tune on the older systems.

They want flex fuel, not a custom tuned monster.

So they go GM or Coyote if burning corn is important to them and they don't think they need a 3/4+ ton.

you dont have to run the big power....its a benefit.


but flex fuel tune is there...the ability to feed the amount of its inferior energy content is not, for the occasional wot use getting the trailer up to speed.


so 5.0 it is.

Didn't want to start a new thread but this is an old thread. Any opinions after changing your oil for the first or second times? I do my own oil changes and curious if changing oil in the new Ranger is truly a pain as posted elsewhere. Don't currently have a Ranger but had three in the past (91,02, & 04) and been contemplating when warranty runs out on my current vehicle in a few months. Hoping the oil change story is not as bad as they make it out to be.

Can’t help you. Mine is too new to have done an oil change yet. Out side of Jim Oaks, I’m not sure if anyone has put enough miles on theirs yet to even think about doing an oil change yet.

Ford wants us to to wait until the notification pops up. I’m going to do that and see how the oil looks and go from there. I think there was a blurb about not waiting more than a year but I may be mistaken and I’m not home to verify that.

Ive done 2, dealer did one around 11,000km(6800miles) and I just did one at home at 19,000km(11800miles)

Its not a big, deal at all, first time had some leanings though.
-4 17mm bolts to remove skid plate, took me about a minute with an impact
-I did mine while the truck was still fairly warm and with the angle of the drain it shoots out of there damn near to the pass. side tire so place your pan accordingly or things will get messy
- takes quite a bit for the last bit of oil to dribble out, have a beer!
- Filter is no real issue to get to, no need to crank the wheels over or anything, straight is fine. You just have to remove a couple plastic screws to uncover it.
- Mine came off by hand with a bit force, but if it was much tighter you,d want a wrench. The socket/cap type would be best with a mid length extension, a bit tight in there for a strap type filter wrench, imo.
-as you loosen the filter and oil starts to come out, Ford has cleverly made a little drain trough so the oil can run down to your pan. It runs to the rear of the axle not the front...learn from my mistakes, lol
- Original, very early online version of the owners manual had the wrong amount of oil listed, something like 5.4 vs 5.8 quarts or the like, dont remember exactly.
- Its a lot of oil, make sure your drain pan is sized accordingly, the one Ive had for years and many different vehicles was full to the top for the first time.

All in all not any more difficult than others Ive done, certainly not what the hype suggested.

I dunno about you guys but every new car I've ever owned got its first oil change at maybe 500 miles. It's the break in period, why would you wait any longer to flush out any metal and nasties?

They changed that. No mention of a break in oil change in the 2019 manual.

They also claim the coolant is good for life...

Owner's manuals give the bare minimum maintenance required to get the vehicle passed the warranty.

You are not wrong. Fordtechmakuloco just did a video on what service intervals for different fluid changes should be and made mention of the “lifetime” bs.

I’m probably going to do an oil change on the 2019 when I get home. It didn’t have enough miles on it before I deployed to do a break in change. Might be a moot point. The girlfriend just took it down to FL to visit her sister. Might be doing an oil change anyway. LOL

When I worked on trucks in the 80's they had 1250 rigs when I started, and were putting on 15 new tractors and 15 new trailers every month.
We would drop the motor oil and the transmission fluid after their first run, take a sample of the the first oil that dropped, and send it in to be analyzed

Ha!, I bought it on Jan.9th right off the truck and picked it up on the 11th, so Ive had some time to add up mileage, lol
