My buddies and I went out on a nearby trail today, not a very difficult trail.
I've been out before, and it had recently rained, so I knew it would be a little muddy. I've just got 27" street tires, but I took by brothers 30" BFG AT tires off of his Ranger and threw it in mine. I had about ten sand bags in the back for better traction. It looked funny, sitting level with big tires in the back.
It turned out it that the trail wasnt muddy, but there were some mud pits and some big puddles to run through.
I went in my ranger, bone stock, and my buddy took his Tacoma TRD Offroad BS package, and another friend in his Tundra. His Tacoma couldnt make it up on hill that I had no problem what so ever going up, he was moving backwards and spinning his wheels at the same time trying to make it up around the turn. Damn kid gives me shit all the time about my stock ranger, saying how his truck is so much tougher and better, what a fag, couldnt make it up the same hill I made it up.
Anyways... This is where I got pissed off for the day.
We found a mud hole, my friend went through it once and came out, and then went in a second time and got stuck. Couldnt get himself out so we grab my buddies Tacoma and hook the tow strap up. The TRD Tacomas come with manual lockers, a pretty nice feature. I tell him to turn it on when we go to pull him out, he looks back at my other friend that dosent know shit about trucks and ask him if he should turn his locker on. He says no, one of those obvious no's, like an OMG you retard no, and says dude, Mike, it says on the side of the door, thats if YOU are stuck, and only in emergencies, no you should not turn that on, its not good. Saying it like as if its going to break it.
He's too stupid to explain it to and I didnt feel like arguing about it, so I let it go. We pulled him out none the less with out his locker on, but heres my question... (sorry for the long story)
Pulling another truck out of mud, not bad, just cant get any traction and your going up over a slight hill, is it okay, and is it common sense to use a locker. Keep in mind, we are on dirt, hard compacted dirt, but none the less, frkn dirt, not a paved road. The warning on the side of the door about his locker says a bunch of BS, dont go over 5 MPH, only in emergencies, only if your stuck... Is it okay use it on dirt while pulling some one out of mud. I could swear on my life it is perfectly fine. I know with a locked differential on pavement you will burn your gears up, but on dirt there isnt enough traction for anything to burn out.
I know it looks live I've got a bunch of sand in my vagina over all of this, but its this stupid little stuff that he does all the time that just down right pisses me off. He's got this great truck, gives me shit about my bone stock ranger yet is afraid to put his truck to use.
Thanks for letting me vent.
