if you had the choice between a stock fullsize 80's bronco and a bronco II/ranger wich would you choose for offroading. it will be mostly for riding trails and going through mudpits. snow and sand are not issues here in tn. i can have either one for less than 1k and ill build it up as time goes on.

The B2 is very versatile, easy to upgrade a bigger V6 and fairly cheap to get. I vote for the B2.

Smaller rigs are always better for most trails being that most offroad parks are carved out by Jeeps. I love the 1st gen ranger but unless your swap axles the 2nd gens are better they have the dana 35 front.

i used to own a b2 and loved it offroad. i had 4.56 gears front and rear with the spiders welded. 4" suspension lift and 2" body lift with 33/12.50/15 dunlap mud terrains on it and i never got her stuck. my dad had an 84 fullsize and i drove it around town and through some fields but never any serious offroad stuff.

i agree smaller is better, but the fs bronco already has solid axles, d44/8.8 axles, and v8 power, and those are things that i will want to do to if i buy another b2.

if anybody can think of better trail rigs for less than 1k im open to suggestions.

79 was the last year of solid axle in the 1/2 ton trucks and FSB. Anything from 80-96 is going to be D44 TTB.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here. B1's are insane in mud and can crawl like no tomorrow. If you could find one with a 351 or an older one with a 400 I would take that over a bronco 2 any day. 302's are good too but they don't spin 33's like nothing like the bigger engine does. If you have the money for a 3 inch lift and 33 inch tires it'll go where a bronco 2 would never dream of.

Im with red, id go with a B1, the extra weight will get you more places, 33's or bigger with a big v8, your talking some serious trail riding.

Get a first generation Bronco. Best of both worlds.

BII..unless it's a 78 or 79 full size....those things are bad ass, but I wouldnt want one as a dd

If i had a B1 and it had this monster engine, and beastly tires and was in great condition....... I couldn't sling it through a trail like i would thrash a 800 dollar rig.

The only thing the full size has thats better is the removable top.
