OEM bolt set vs. off the shelf studs for 2005 3.0 manifold

Hello everyone.
I am putting a new (reman) set of heads on my 2005 Ranger Edge. I don't want to reuse the manifold bolts, even if I can remove them in one piece. I see one is already broken before I even start. The OEM sets from Dorman (about $140!!! for both sides) seem to be the only vehicle specific option I can find. I do see a few "generic" stud sets with the correct size and thread pitch M8 x 1.25. Can I use those instead? Any advice is welcome.

O Reilly's and some of the other stores are about $70. Some other online places are about $35.

Whatever bolts you use, make sure the manifold surface is flat with a straight edge or it will move when it gets hot and snap the head off some of them. If you decide to use generic bolts make sure they're hard enough- at least grade 5 if not grade 8.

Thanks for the info. Yes, they are cheaper in the states (like most things) but up here in Canada they are pretty pricey and by the time you pay the exchange and duty it all adds up. Thats why I was looking for an alternative

Thanks, good advice. Much appreciated. Fortunately I am in an industrial hub so I should be able to source out some high grade replacements here.

I used a stud/nut set for a 5.4 rather than the bolts.
