so i was just on a 2.5 hour drive and noticed about half way in that i had been at 189201 for about 20 minutes and my tripmeter doesnt work either. any thoughts? could it be the worm gear in the tail shaft or the cable? i havent had time to inspect casue im at college but i plan to sometime this week

Worm gear I'm sure

Mine went out st 156,000 or so. That was years ago though lol I'm sure I broke 200,000 miles already, kinda pointless fixing mine at this point lol

Did those help?

I have the same problem right now. I have the little motor and worm gear in my possession but I have no time to do such project. :(

that helped alot! ill have to find the motor and gear and replace them. are the gears basically the same from 96-01? and also if it makes a difference its a 95 built in november(11-25) and it has the OHV not the SOHC engine

I'm pretty site the teeth matter more, the sites I posted should tell you that. I say because it depends if you want to fix the readings due to larger tires too

there is a thing in the tech library about it but i thought that was just for speed. but the speedometer is about 5 off from what i can tell/ but i thought that worm gear was in the tail shaft. :dunno:

It might fix both problems hmm, either way the sure you buy then from i'm sure had a listing of what years had what

Replaced the worm and still no odometer love

I too have the same issue. i followed the instructions that someone previously linked to (which were great by the way) and sure enough the worm was broke in half. i pulled everything out and cleaned everything. pressed the new worm on the motor and reassembled everything. only problem is is still isnt working. is there something else i might have missed?
