Occasional OD squeal

88BII 2.9 5sp manual 240k mi. Only in overdrive I get an occasional squeal. I drive 27mi ea way to work 5-6 days a week. In Aug it did this for a couple days, quit for about a week, back for a couple days, then gone, then nothing until thursday and fri. not driven over the wknd so I don't know if she'll still do it. Goes away when I let off the gas. Does it when holding the gas steady. OD has always had a bit of a grind/rattle sound to it since I got her 13 years ago with 68k mi. All other gears are quiet. Ideas? Thanks

can you get it to do it in 4th by stomping on the gas? if so it sounds like it might be your clutch slipping. you say that it has always had a grinding sound so i suggest that you read the "tranny whine" thread that is in this forum. it is less than a week old.
