Getting my new ranger its a 92 with 76k original miles. The P/O said if it would sit a few days sometimes it would stuggle to start. He then said when it did pop off it runs great. And doesnt do it every time. Also added if tou cycle the key a couple times it didnt seem to do it? Coincidence I imagine. It has a new fuel pump a shop told him that was the cause. Any tips or info ?

Yes
replace fuel pump

So, to be clear, the previous owner was seeing occasional no starts., and cycling the key (priming the pump) a couple of times didn't help. But when it did finally start, it would run fine.

So they replaced the fuel pump. (apparently not too long before you bought it)

Did they experience occasional non-starts since the pump was replaced? Have you?

Things that happen once in awhile are notoriously hard to diagnose/repair especially in the short term. Something that right out dies on the other hand, then if you replace/repair a part, it either works(got it!) or it doesn't (huh!).

One suggestion, if you are experiencing ongoing problems, start a little journal for the truck, documenting when it happens, and any possible external factors (eg: extremely hot/cold, wet/humid, had it been sitting awhile, parked on a hill etc). Also, record anything repaired/changed on the truck, and the date of that, so you can see if it had a long-term effect. With an intermittent fault, some kind of reliable history of its occurrance would be helpful (hopefully)

Possibly drop the filter, and see if there is any sign of junk in it from the tank.
