Hey guys, I'm in need of the driver's side door latch assembly for my 88' Ranger XLT. I have looked everywhere it seems like for used and new ones but I can not find any. Any suggestions on where to look next?

This sub-forum is for rare trucks. Looking for parts that aren't rare on this sub-forum may not get you the views you want. You can post a thread in "general", but generally more than one thread about the same subject is frowned on because it can lead to confusion. Best is posting a thread in the classifieds.
I'll re-direct this thread to "general" and you can start another in classifieds if you wish.
Good luck,

Richard

Did you try LMC truck? Rockauto? Ebay?

Probably your best bet is gonna be a junk yard/pick and pull. I had this problem once looking for a steering knuckle for a light duty Dana44 (closed knuckle) on an old 73 I had. I eventually found one that was only a little better than what I was replacing. It seems the small the part, the more obscure they become.

Try a obsolete Ford parts seller, like Green Sales 1-800-543-4959. If they don't have it, they'll at least get you a part number and you can check out rearcounter.com or partsvoice.com.

I don't think it's going to be inexpensive.

88 door latches

I'm looking for a pair of door latches for my 88 extra cab to build tube-doors.
I've tried ebay, they want 85 bucks for one door latch..... still looking.:icon_confused:

Will be stopping by the local pick n pull yard tomorrow. Was there today to get a throttle body from an 87 ranger and there are at least six 92 and older b2's and rangers there, will take a look for the latches if you want. do you need the entire lock assembly and inside/outside handle w/rods or just specific parts of it?

The door latches changed between Gen I and Gen II...they are not the same so it will need specifically Gen I (83-88 only)...the parts are interchangeable ONLY if you swap out the entire mechanism...including the door latch...and door trim.

The difference is obvious when you look at them side by side, but the not so obvious thing is the Gen IIs are designed to PUSH the door latch to open the door while Gen I will PULL the latch (as per the inside door handle operation...outside door operation is also different so you may need the handles also)

And then you will need to swap out the inside door trim...

Nice thing about Gen II door trim is it is thicker and better insulated than the Gen I...
