so i got a 90 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 and i want one of these http://www.scantool.net/products/product_info.php?cPath=8&products_id=32 so do i have the obd 1 or the obd 2 connector

um it says on the site

"The compact and durable ElmScan 5 USB scan tool supports all OBD-II protocols"

so from that my guess is that its for obd 2 connectors.

thats what i was lookin for so i have the obd 1 and the obd 2 will not work right

Not even that.

It can be done with a paper clip. The check engine light serves as a "test light."

A 6 inch wire with 1/4 inch spades at both ends is the "nice" way to do it, but it can be done in a pinch with any decent conductor.
