I have a chance to buy an obd-2 4.0 engine from a wrecked explorer and I'm considering doing it to keep it as a spare...my Ranger runs fine at 165k miles, but considering the cost of rebuilds.

My '93 is obviously an obd-1, if I buy the other engine, is it as simple as just leaving my wiring harness intact, removing the one on that engine...or are there issues with the mechanical components...heads, other possible input locations for the additional sensors on the obd-2 that might cause a retrofit problem?

Thanks...Paul

as long as the engine is an ohv 4.0 and not the SOHC version, the block and heads will interchange. you will have to swap over your intake (both upper and lower) and probably all of your sensors from you 93 to make it work with your truck. you might have to swap the oil pan as well, altho I am not sure of that...the obd2 harness will not work with your 93 either, you will need to re use the old one.

if you are getting this engine cheap, might be worth it, but you are going to spend some coin on gaskets and some time swapping things over...
