Obd 1 Or 2

I have a 1994 Ford Explorer with a 4.0 Vin: X. and having engine problems. I plan on doing all the component tests however, I would like to run the OBD tests first. Using my ? Manual ? I cannot determine which to use. OBD 1 or OBD 11. Can someone tell me how to determine which?? I am getting too old I guess. The connection is in the engine compartment.

everything pre 06 was OBDI so you would be OBDI an OBDII connection is under the dash, usually on the driver side.

damn. my bad, typo, that was supposed to be 1996, it may have been 95 but im pretty sure it was 96.

Don't sweat it; I always have the exact opposite problem- I say "ninety-something" when I mean "oh-something". Still can't get the hang of these "oh" years.

OBD-II was first required in 1996. But at least quite a few (maybe all) 1995 RBVs have it. The easiest way to tell is to locate the diagnostic connector. For OBD-II, it's under the steering wheel (or near there) on every vehicle. For OBD-I, RBVs put it somewhere in the engine compartment, generally somewhere inside the passenger side fender (on later OBD-Is, it's attached to the power distribution box).
