Are the o2 sensors for a 2.9L the same as 4.0L or different?

If they are different and I have an 87 ranger (originally with 2.9) with a 93 4.0 swap do I need a 4.0 sensor or a 2.9 sensor.

The ranger originally had 1 sensor the 93 4.0 has connections for 2 sensors. Do I need both sensors and if so how do I hook them up since there is only room for one sensor in the exhaust pipe.

Lots of questions I know, but they all go together. Hopefully we can get them all answered. Thanks guys and gals.

All of your sensors and stuff need to match the engine/computer that you are trying to run with them. The body of the vehicle doesn't give and at's rass about the sensors.

To see if the sensors (or any other part) are the same, go to a parts store website, look up the part in question for the vehicles in question and compare the numbers.

As for the hook up, you need to get a 4.0 Y-pipe.

Something I just thought of.

You have an 87. In 88 the flange between the Y-pipe and cat changed so the EGR cats couldn't be put on the later non-EGR vehicles. To convert to a later Y-pipe you will need an 88+ cat.
