Im pondering the issues im having with rusty 2.0 (flooding, power loss, etc when warm) and i gotta question...

I replaced the O2 sensor on a whim trying to figure this out. I did find a bad wire to thr O2 after i changed it...

However, before i changed it i had no codes related to the O2.

Now i do.

The factory 02 (87 ranger) was skinny on top, the new one is fatter and overall looks different. Well i jumped online on a hunch and every replacement O2 i find is skinny for an 86-88 2.9.

Every fat O2 lists it for an 89-92 2.9.

Is it possible to have the wrong O2?

Forgive me if this sounds stupid. But i really dont know.

Its possible that you have the wrong one. In general the work the same, but I believe in 89 Ford changed from a 3-wire to a 4-wire sensor. That changes where the signal line grounds, and a 4-wire sensor may not be visible to the computer.

Ill look and see how many wires are on it. For some reason i think 4. But it plugged right in...

This is what they gave me...

If it's a 3-wire sensor it should work just fine. All of Ford's narrow band O2 sensors use the same plug, so the plugs are going to work.

I think I've used that Bosch on mine without issues though.

Unplug it and look into the connectors, make sure the wires on the sensor are in the same cavities as the ones on the harness.

I will do that. Im gonna start tearing back into the thing next week hopefully. It was odd though i fired it up a couple weeks ago, took a few hot shot blasts up and down the dirt roads, drug some junk around, let it run a good 45min-hr and had 0 issues.
