Hey guys, I have a 2003 Ranger Supercab 4x2 with a 3.0 and a 5R44E. I just got this truck two weeks ago, and it didn't have a single problem. The truck has 43,000 miles on it. Today on the way home the O/D off light came on, and started flashing. I noticed at the next stop that it shifts hard at about 10mph upon acceleration, whatever gear that is. I searched here, and I see a few people have had this problem, and the outlook doesn't look good. I'm quite pissed right now, because the car I traded in for the Ranger threw a transmission code on me and it was gonna be quite costly to fix, so I traded in the car for something I thought would do me good. My last Ranger had 189,000 on the original 4R44E, and the previous owner of that truck pulled horse trailers with it. I really don't understand how this transmission can already be doing this at such low mileage.

Does anybody have any suggestions on what might be wrong? I'm gonna swing by my trusted transmission shop tomorrow and see if they can tell me anything. I need this truck to get to school, so this isn't what I need at all.

Wow. I just went to Auto Zone to have the code read, and the whole way there it didn't shift hard, and the O/D Off light didn't come on. I got to Auto Zone, and when the guy plugged the scanner in, there were no codes in the computer.

What in the world is going on with it? I guess it's a good sign, but I don't trust it. Is it possible I hit a nice bump and shook a wire or something to trigger the light?

Some generic scanners wont read trans codes. How Long were you driving when the light came on? It could possibly be your torque converter clutch not locking up when hot. That would set code P0741 and flash the OD light.

may just be shit on the tss or vehicle speed sensor

does the speedo jump around?
