im converting a 86 ranger swb 2x4, into a 302, c4, all the goods. i ordered a converstion kit to make things easier, it did not say anything about the firewall fabs im gonna have to make to fit the c4, or the notches i had to make for the motor mounts, the truck is gutted completly, why is this becoming a monster?? and how is the rear end gnna hold 400 plus horses

Another satisfied kit custmer !!! A little research here would have told you NOT to buy a kit, but source the parts separately. Also would have told you what mods are needed for the transmission tunnel seam (BFH works here) Using parts house sourced 85-93 Mustang 'vert mounts would have saved you from notching any part of the crossmember. Just have to drill a few holes is all. And lastly, stop worring about the rearend. It will be fine for as long as it'll take you to complete the swap and work the bugs out of everything. It's not the horsepower that will do it in, but the sudden application of torque on dry pavement that will break one. As long as you don't subject it to this scenario, it'll last a good while.

thats part of your problem...... you can't fit a 302 onto a 2x4.

:icon_confused:I don't think so Dave..................I've set several 302's onto 2x4's and they didn't slide worth a crap. Gotta have wheels under it. Or grease the floor really good.:icon_thumby: But first gotta get past the "falling over thing" That shit hurts.:dunno:

I think he ment 4x2.

Either way, you rear end might be a lil weak if you really plan on pushing 400hp from a 302 (which i think might be a touch out of reach unless you have gobs of money), id go for a 9inch.

later,
Dustin

It's all these little things that make it fun, and make it YOURS.

Enjoy it, it happened to all of us.

I would not worry about the rearend with the automatic trans. In the future, once you have it all together you can look for an 8.8 out of a later Ranger or Explorer that already has a Traction Lock, and you can get a stronger rear, limited slip, and larger brakes all at once.
