Amongst numerous other things I'm repairing/fixing on my '99 Ranger (if you haven't seen my posts everywhere else on the forum), I've been wanting to put a new exhaust on. I've read about Flowmasters and Cherrybombs and everyone seems pretty divided on them. I'm just looking for a better sound than stock, and after watching some Youtube videos of both on Rangers they both seem to do the job. Could anyone give me some recommendations?

For sound, I reccomend a chambered muffler, like a Flowmaster.

A Thrush Welded muffler is the same thing, and they run about $30 from Summit Racing

Yeah, glass packs never sound good on anything less than 400 cubes. On a V6 ranger they just sound ratty and annoying. Even a turbo muffler is going to be buzzy. The only aftermarket mufflers that I think sound good on small displacement engines are the flowmasters (or thrush welded knockoff for $30) or the magnaflows.

So the Thrush Welded mufflers are the same thing as the Flowmasters? Price isn't a big deal, but if there isn't difference between to the two...

i have a flowtech purple hornie on my 4.0 and it sounds great. its bolted right to the manifolds

just don't do dul glass packs, they sound like shit, although Gangbangers and old hotrodders seem to like the way my Suburban sounds with the uncorked duals on a 350.

i'm running a cherry bomb glasspack now. i dont like it, sounds like a ricer to me, but it is an improvement over stock and it's only $20. ive never really heard it from the outside though..

Glasspack shouldnt sound ricey on a 4.0. Mine doesnt sound ricey on my 2.3. Have a buddy rev it up a couple times, and stand outside. I think you might be surprised.:icon_thumby:
